Known for its battles, buffalo and as the birthplace of Elvis, Tupelo has an ecclectic assortment of attractions on offer including Elvis tours, historic sites and big-animal sightings.
The Kingston Peak road crosses an above-treeline bench at 12,000 feet elevation for spectacular views of nearby James Peak, as well as more distant views of Longs Peak to the north to Mt. Evans to the south. The elevations means there is snow until late in the year so the season is short. Much of the distance is on the high-clearance 2WD Apex Road. About 8 miles is true 4WD, with some quite steep, rocky sections near the top. The road passes the trailhead for the James Peak Lake and Ute Trails, and also a trail to James Peak.
