Gulf Shores, Alabama Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Gulf Shores is located southeast of Mobile, off Interstate 10. At the eastern end of the island is a bridge that connects to Pensacola, Florida, at the western end is Fort Morgan State Park. Water is everywhere! The Gulf of Mexico, The Intracoastal Waterway, and Mobile Bay surround Gulf Shores. Beautiful beaches, vivid sunsets, stunning blue skies, vibrant green golf courses and tranquilizing bodies of water are the norm here. Indeed, Gulf Shores is a place that's easy to fall in love with.

As if this weren't enough, Gulf Shores is also home to the Annual National Shrimp Festival, held in October. While this four-day festival highlights shrimp, it also features musical entertainment, local art, and a special section devoted to children. Now in its 35th year, this ever-popular festival is widely recognized as one of the premier events in the state of Alabama.

Opportunities for exploration are endless. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge offers swimming, fishing, and foot trails. Spending a few hours in the 6,000-acre refuge will help one gain a greater respect for this stunning region. Gulf State Park allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy a number of activities- such as water-skiing, surfing, golfing, hiking and bicycling. Of special note is the 825-foot fishing pier that will have visitors catching "the big one" from the Gulf of Mexico. Fort Morgan Park is yet another "don't miss". Its history is long and intriguing, and includes use during several wars. Its location on the west tip of the island makes for an especially breathtaking visit. A fishing pier and picnic areas are available for use.

Visitors shouldn't think of leaving this delightful town without experiencing delectable fresh seafood, straight from the Gulf. For a different experience, one should consider a dinner cruise. A dolphin-watching cruise is a relaxing way to spend a few hours and get a different perspective on Gulf Shores. Children will especially enjoy this treat!

Gulf Shores is located in the most southern region of Alabama, just south of Interstate 10 and Route 98, via the Folly Beach Express.
